“There is need of only one thing.

Mary has chosen the better part,

which will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10: 42

Charism

The charism of the confraternity is eucharistic devotion. This devotion is rooted in God’s word. Different biblical passages illumine an inexhaustible multitude of aspects of this Charism.

The name Eucharistia GLORIA is rooted in St. John’s Gospel:

“The glory that you have given me I have given them,

so that they may be one, as we are one,

Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me,

may be with me where I am, to see my glory,

which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.”

John 17: 22-24

This scripture brings out a few themes:

  1. The Eucharistic theme of unity that the confraternity ardently seeks to live will embody a familial spirit in the Lord.

  2. The sacred text also highlights the great desire of the Lord for his disciples to be with him in order to share in his glory with the Father. The confraternity aims to make a conscious decision to fulfill the Lord’s desire by visiting the Lord in his Eucharistic Glory as often as possible.

  3. The theme of Glory conveys a sense of light which every member of the confraternity seeks to be in the world through the witness of love and the mission to preach the truth of the Gospel.

The next two sacred scriptures that root the charism of the community are:

“One thing have I asked of the Lord,
   that will I seek after;
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple.”

Psalm 27:4

“There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part,

which will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10: 42

These sacred texts inspire the Confraternity to make a culture where Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration is top priority.  Eucharistic worship contributes to “building the temple of the Lord.” Members are a sign of devotion to prayer in their respective parishes, ecclesial communities, families, and work places. While Eucharistic Adoration is not the only form of prayer, the confraternity recognizes the words of St. Alphonsus Ligouri, quoted by St. John Paul II in Ecclesia de Eucharistia:

“Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

is the greatest after the sacraments,

the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us."

When worship of the Lord is enthroned as our greatest priority, all our other priorities are seasoned with greater love and virtue. This confraternity does not seek only to bask in the Glory of the Eucharist but seeks to share it, especially with the poor.  It seeks to be energized by our Eucharistic Lord in order to go out in mission and charity to the world.

We take from Christ’s institution of the Eucharist the inspiration to give our lives away to others for the sake of Christ:

“And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it,

and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.”

And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them,

and they all drank of it.

And he said to them,

“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.”

Mark 14: 22-24

The love and service of each member’s lives should echo the words of the Lord: “Take, this is my body… Take, this is my blood.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that one of the fruits of the Eucharist is commitment to the poor. Eucharistia Gloria has the poor in mind and it heeds the quote by St John Chrysostom:“You have tasted the Blood of the Lord, yet you do not recognize your brother,. . . . You dishonor this table when you do not judge worthy of sharing your food someone judged worthy to take part in this meal. . . . God freed you from all your sins and invited you here, but you have not become more merciful.”

Mission

The mission of Eucharistia Gloria  is three-fold.

Firstly, to build up a spiritual army of Eucharistic Adorers throughout our Archdiocese who are serious about growing in a community focused on Eucharistic spirituality and ongoing spiritual formation.

Secondly, the confraternity aims to help put our Eucharistic Lord at the center of the culture and practice of all parishes and ecclesial communities of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain. The mission is to establish, maintain and develop viable weekly Eucharistic Adoration, in conformity with the teaching of the Church and in full obedience to the Archbishop and priests, for the upbuilding and renewal of parishes and ecclesial communities.

Thirdly, to be committed to the Catholic preferential option for the poor and charitable works in whatever way the Lord invites each member.Vision: We seek to spread Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in the culture by a nucleus of people in parishes and ecclesial communities in the Archdiocese. These members are principally formed by sitting at the feet of Jesus Christ, truly present in the Blessed Eucharist.

it signifies love, it produces love.

The Eucharist is the consummation
